Description

ARC OSCB cavity barriers are designed for use in cavities where ventilation is required during normal conditions. Made from non-combustible rockfibre mineral wool and featuring a reactive intumescent layer, these barriers can maintain an air gap of either 25mm or 44mm. In the event of a fire, the intumescent layer quickly expands, closing the air gap to prevent vertical fire spread within the external wall cavity. These barriers are suitable for horizontal installation and should be paired with ARC Fire Stop Slab for vertical installation to provide a complete cavity barrier solution.

Where to use

Installation within cavities where ventilation is required in service use: The ARC Open State Cavity Barrier is designed for installation within cavities where maintaining ventilation is essential during service use. Here’s why it’s effective:

Fire Protection with Ventilation: The primary function of the Open State Cavity Barrier is to provide fire resistance while allowing air to flow through the cavity. This barrier is specifically designed to expand in the event of a fire, sealing the cavity and preventing the spread of flames and smoke. During normal service use, the barrier remains open, allowing for necessary ventilation to prevent moisture build-up and maintain the integrity of the building's envelope.

Compliance with Building Regulations: The Open State Cavity Barrier meets strict building regulations that require both fire protection and ventilation within certain cavity spaces. It ensures that the building’s ventilation requirements are met without compromising on fire safety.

Moisture Management: By allowing air to circulate, the barrier helps to manage moisture levels within the cavity, reducing the risk of condensation and related issues such as mould growth or material degradation. This is particularly important in areas where maintaining a dry cavity is crucial for the longevity of the building materials.

Versatility: The ARC Open State Cavity Barrier is suitable for a variety of building types and applications where both fire protection and ventilation are required, making it a versatile solution for modern construction needs.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the ARC Open State Cavity Barrier? - The ARC Open State Cavity Barrier is a fire-resistant barrier designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke through open cavities in buildings. It allows for ventilation and drainage during normal conditions while expanding in the event of a fire to seal the cavity and inhibit fire spread.
  • How is the ARC Open State Cavity Barrier installed? - The ARC Open State Cavity Barrier is installed horizontally or vertically within the cavity of external walls, typically behind the external cladding. It is positioned to ensure that it will expand and seal the cavity in the event of a fire, while allowing for normal ventilation and drainage.
  • Where is the ARC Open State Cavity Barrier typically used? - This product is commonly used in external wall cavities, particularly in buildings with rain screen cladding systems. It is suitable for both residential and commercial applications where maintaining ventilation and fire protection is essential.
  • What are the key benefits of using the ARC Open State Cavity Barrier? - The ARC Open State Cavity Barrier offers several benefits, including effective fire protection by expanding to seal cavities during a fire, maintaining ventilation and drainage under normal conditions, and compliance with building regulations for fire safety in cavity wall constructions.
