Wall Insulation

Properly insulated walls prevent heat loss, reduce energy bills, and create a more comfortable living environment. Whether you're working on new construction, upgrading an existing property, or improving thermal performance, selecting the right wall insulation is essential.

In cavity wall applications, mineral wool or fiberglass are popular choices, as they effectively fill the gaps within the cavity, preventing heat loss and minimising the risk of moisture penetration. These materials also provide excellent soundproofing benefits.

Solid walls are common in older properties, where insulated plasterboard can be applied directly to the interior walls, or internal wall insulation (IWI) can be used to improve thermal performance without compromising space. Materials such as mineral wool (Rockwool Acoustic Slab) and sheep's wool (eco-friendly wall insulation) are excellent for retrofitting in older homes.

External Wall Insulation (EWI) involves applying a layer of insulation to the outer walls of the building, followed by a protective render. EWI improves both thermal efficiency and the aesthetics of the property while preventing cold spots and condensation. Extruded polystyrene (XPS) is commonly used for this purpose, especially when additional moisture resistance is required in areas exposed to the elements or prone to dampness. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) might be used for mild climates with low humidity or when cost is a primary concern.
