Soundproof buildings with acoustic insulation
Acoustic insulation reduces noise inside a building, protecting people working or living in the building who are exposed to unsafe levels of sound. There are two types of acoustic insulation: sound insulation and sound-absorbing insulation.
Soundproof insulation
Sound insulation is placed inside cavities in floors, ceilings, and internal / party walls to prevent or significantly reduce sound transmission between rooms. This includes airborne sound (voices, music, or traffic) and impact sound (footsteps or moving furniture).
Generally speaking, the denser the insulation, the better it will block sound, as there is less space for the noise to bounce around, which would otherwise cause echoes.
This is especially useful in residential homes, where it blocks unwanted noise between shared apartment walls and outdoor noise from busy streets.
Sound-absorbing insulation
Sound waves bounce around in rooms with concrete floors or bare walls, creating an echo.
Sound-absorbing insulation controls sound within a space, trapping sound waves and converting them into heat. This effectively reduces echo and reverberation for a more peaceful and better-sounding environment.
It's also used to reduce noise pollution in environments with multiple conversations at the same time, such as restaurants or busy workplaces.
