Where to use

Choosing the right PIR Insulation board for your application:

Floor Insulation:

GA4000 and XR4000 boards are well suited for ground floors, suspended timber floors, and concrete slab constructions. They offer strong compressive performance along with excellent resistance to moisture, making them a reliable choice for a wide range of flooring applications. Where a reduced insulation thickness is needed, the TB4000 board provides an effective slimline alternative.

Pitched Roof Insulation:

TB4000, GA4000, and XR4000 boards deliver high levels of thermal efficiency in pitched roof applications. GA4000 and XR4000 are frequently installed between and over rafters to achieve optimal insulation performance, while TB4000 is ideal for projects with limited roof space.

Wall Insulation:

GA4000, TB4000, and XR4000 boards offer flexible insulation solutions for wall systems. Suitable for both internal and external wall applications, these boards provide consistent thermal performance across a variety of wall constructions.

Frequently asked questions

What Is PIR Insulation?

PIR (polyisocyanurate) insulation is a widely used rigid foam insulation valued for its excellent thermal performance. It is regarded as one of the most efficient insulation materials available, making it a popular choice across a broad range of building and construction applications. Its performance helps improve energy efficiency while minimising heat loss within a structure.

What Happens If PIR Insulation Gets Wet?

PIR insulation is manufactured to offer good resistance to moisture; however, extended contact with water can negatively impact its performance. If the insulation becomes saturated, its ability to retain heat may be reduced, which can affect its overall insulating efficiency.

What Are the Three Types of Soprema PIR?

The Soprema PIR range consists of three products: TB4000, GA4000, and XR4000. These designations relate only to the thickness options available, as all three boards share the same core PIR composition.

What’s the Difference Between Soprema TB4000, GA4000, and XR4000?

Soprema TB4000 is produced in thinner thicknesses, ranging from 20mm to 40mm. It is specifically designed to help minimise thermal bridging—areas where heat can escape due to reduced insulation. This makes it ideal for perimeter details in floors, walls, and pitched roofs where space is limited.

Soprema GA4000 is a versatile, general-purpose PIR board suitable for floors, walls, dry lining, and pitched roof applications. Available in thicknesses from 50mm to 100mm, it offers strong thermal performance and flexibility across a wide range of installations, including between roof rafters.

Soprema XR4000 is a high-performance PIR insulation board designed for demanding applications. With thickness options from 110mm to 200mm, it is particularly effective in reducing heat loss in external areas and is commonly specified where higher insulation values are required.

How Is Soprema PIR Insulation Installed?

Soprema PIR boards are usually installed using mechanical fixings or suitable adhesives. They can be easily cut to size and fitted between studs, joists, rafters, or within cavity walls to ensure a tight fit and consistent thermal coverage.

Is PIR the Same as Soprema?

PIR refers to the insulation material itself—polyisocyanurate—while Soprema is a manufacturer that produces PIR insulation boards.
