Description

The ARC Retrofit Wallplate Insulator is designed to improve the thermal efficiency of existing buildings by reducing heat loss at the eaves junction in situations where access over the wall plate is restricted.

This innovative unit includes an integrated ventilation tray to ensure continuous airflow into the loft space, helping prevent condensation and mould. It is manufactured to suit common rafter spacings, making installation straightforward and reliable.

Its performance and design make it particularly well suited for retrofit projects seeking PAS 2035 compliance, where maintaining both ventilation and thermal performance is essential.

Key Features

  • Ensures continuous insulation over the wall plate into the soffit.
  • Maintains 10,000mm2 ventilation area at the eaves as required for most cold lofts.
  • Reduces thermal bridging at the eaves detail, improving the psi-value.
  • Improves thermal performance of the house.
  • Warmer internal walls reduce the risk of condensation and mould formation which can be hazardous to health.
  • Protected design ensures that installation is fast and easy.

Where to use

The ARC Retrofit Wall Plate Insulator (RWPI) is designed to reduce heat loss at the eaves junction, where the pitched roof meets the external wall. This area is difficult to insulate retrospectively due to restricted space, making it prone to thermal bridging and cold spots.

Traditional methods such as packing mineral or glass wool often block ventilation paths, leading to condensation and mould growth. The RWPI overcomes this by allowing insulation to pass over the wall plate while maintaining continuous ventilation in line with building regulations. This helps prevent damp and mould, improving the thermal performance of the property.

The RWPI is suitable where loft roll insulation can continue over the wall plate to meet wall or soffit insulation. For cases where access is restricted, the ARC Retrofit Eaves Insulator may be more appropriate. The RWPI is also effective for sloped ceiling (skeiling) details, which are typically difficult to insulate effectively.

Frequently asked questions

What problem does the ARC Retrofit Wall Plate Insulator solve?

It prevents excessive heat loss at the eaves junction while maintaining the ventilation path, reducing the risk of cold spots and condensation.

When should the Wall Plate Insulator be used instead of the Eaves Insulator?

The Wall Plate Insulator should be used where insulation can pass over the wall plate. If access is blocked by the wall plate or cavity capping, the Eaves Insulator may be more suitable.

Can it be used in sloped ceiling (skeiling) areas?

Yes, the RWPI is particularly effective in skeiling details, which are often prone to poor thermal performance.
