Description

Celotex PIR Insulation Boards are versatile polyisocyanurate (PIR) solutions designed for easy installation across floors, walls, and roofs. They come in a standard size of 2400mm x 1200mm, with thicknesses ranging from 20mm to 200mm to suit various applications. Commonly chosen thicknesses include:

  • 100mm – Ideal for high-performance insulation in roofs and walls.
  • 50mm – Suitable for floors and walls where space is limited but good thermal efficiency is needed.
  • 25mm – Great for areas requiring thinner insulation, especially floors.

What's the difference between Celotex TB4000, GA4000, and XR4000?

While they are all the same type of board, they are classified as TB4000, GA4000, or XR4000 according to their thickness: TB4000 for thinner boards, GA4000 for medium thickness, and XR4000 for thicker options. See a breakdown below:

  • Celotex TB4000 is available in thinner sizes, from 12 mm to 40 mm. It’s designed to reduce thermal bridging (when heat escapes through parts of a structure with less insulation). It’s often used around the edges of floors, walls, or pitched roofs to boost thermal efficiency without adding much bulk.
  • Celotex GA4000 is a General-purpose PIR insulation board suitable for pitched roofs, walls, dry lining, and floor insulation. Its thickness ranges from 50mm to 100mm, and is known for its versatility and high thermal performance. It can be used effectively in various building applications, including being installed in the middle of pitched roofs.
  • Celotex XR4000 is a high-performance PIR insulation board suitable for various applications, including walls, roofs, and floors. It’s offered in a range of thicknesses, from 110mm - 200mm. XR4000 is particularly effective in reducing heat loss in external applications and is often used where high insulation values are required.

Where to use

Choosing the right PIR Insulation board for your application:

Floor Insulation: GA4000 and XR4000 boards are ideal for use in ground floors, suspended timber floors, and concrete slabs. These boards provide high compressive strength and moisture resistance, making them perfect for a variety of floor insulation needs.

The TB4000 board is an excellent option for areas requiring a thinner insulation profile.

Pitched Roof Insulation: TB4000, GA4000 and XR4000 boards offer superior thermal performance.

GA4000 and XR4000 are commonly used between and over rafters for maximum insulation, while TB4000 provides a slimmer option for applications where space is a constraint.

Wall Insulation: GA4000, TB4000, and XR4000 boards are versatile solutions. These products are well-suited for internal wall insulation and external applications, offering excellent thermal performance across different wall types.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is PIR insulation? PIR, or polyisocyanurate, is a popular type of insulation known for its exceptional thermal efficiency. It is among the most effective insulation materials available in the industry today. Its unique properties make it a preferred choice for various applications in building and construction projects, helping to improve energy efficiency and reduce heat loss.
  • What Happens if PIR Insulation Gets Wet? PIR insulation, or polyisocyanurate insulation, is designed to be resistant to moisture; however, prolonged exposure to water can lead to significant damage. If PIR insulation becomes wet, it can lose its insulating effectiveness and overall performance may deteriorate.
  • What are the 3 different types of Celotex PIR? Within the Celotex PIR range, there are three distinct products: TB4000, GA4000, and XR4000. These product names correspond solely to the varying thicknesses available, with no differences in their fundamental composition.
  • What is the difference between Celotex TB4000, Celotex GA4000 and Celotex XR4000? Comparing Celotex TB4000, GA4000, and XR4000, the key distinction lies in their respective thicknesses, directly impacting thermal performance. TB4000 is available in thicknesses ranging from 20mm to 40mm, offering a thinner option suitable for spaces with limited room. GA4000 comes in thicker variants, ranging from 50mm to 100mm, providing better insulation for general building applications. XR4000 surpasses both in thickness options, ranging from 110mm to 200mm, thus offering superior thermal performance. It's essential to consider these thickness variations when selecting insulation materials, as thicker options generally provide better insulation against heat transfer.
  • How is Celotex PIR insulation installed? Celotex PIR insulation is typically installed by fixing it in place using mechanical fixings or adhesives. It can be cut to size to fit snugly between studs, joists, rafters, or within cavity walls, ensuring proper coverage and thermal performance.
