Novia B1F Building Paper is best suited for internal building applications where a stronger, more durable lining material is required. Manufactured to BS 1521 Grade B1F standards, it features a bitumen-impregnated kraft paper with fibre reinforcement, providing improved tear resistance and enhanced durability compared to standard B2 grades. This makes it ideal for use in timber frame construction as a separation layer, temporary protection sheet, or internal draught excluder. While it offers moderate moisture resistance, Novia B1F is not designed to serve as a primary vapour control layer but is highly effective in general-purpose internal applications where added robustness is beneficial.

Is it suitable for permanent installations?

No – it’s intended only for temporary or defined-use applications. For permanent installation (e.g., vapour control), Novia recommends A1F or Polybit papers.

Is it waterproof?

Yes – the bitumen-laminated structure provides waterproof protection, making it suitable as a moisture barrier in temporary or external uses.

What is BS 1521 Grade B1F?

This Standard covers Class B (non-reinforced) building papers, with B1F denoting a reinforced version. Compliance is regulated, but specific applications are determined by the installer.
